The Oar

The oar

The oar on the gamut2 rotates just like the oar in a shell. The harder you pull on the oar, the more it tries to square. There are stops which limit rotation to 90 degrees. These features facilitate teaching and observing oar handling.

The gamut2 oar uses a steel spring to simulate the natural springiness of the sweep oar. The stiffness of the steel spring closely approximates the stiffness of a real oar. The rower “bends” the oar by compressing the steel oar spring.

The oar pull gauge

The steel oar spring enables the most useful coaching feature of the gamut2: the oar pull gauge. For the first time in a sweep oar training machine, the coach can see a real time instantaneous reading of oar load. The coach can directly observe how fast and hard the rower hits the catch and how much force the rower exerts through the entire stroke. Imagine being able to measure the bend in each oar as the crew rows on the water. With the gamut2, you can. This is an extremely powerful training and evaluation tool.
